Steamboat, BBQ, Harley D, Bullalo Mon & Fed Pen

Today was very gloomy, misty and a bit cool.  We headed to KC to see the

The steamboat Arabia was a side wheeler steamboat which hit a snag in the Missouri River and sank near what today is Parkville, Missouri, on September 5, 1856. It was rediscovered in 1988 by a team of researchers. Today, the artifacts recovered from the site are housed in the Arabia Steamboat Museum.[1]

this was my third visit, Eric's first.  it is well worth going to, the family that unearthed the steamboat and its artifacts run the museum.  They did a really good job of presenting the artifacts and history.  Not too much to take pictures of so no pics.

Next it is lunch time,

I had the ribs and Eric had the buffet..  the ribs were St Louis style, too fatty for me but very good,  Eric's buffet was very good too..

next to:

Plant tour!  again no pics in the plant but in the lobby we could:

Next to Leavenworth KS  we went into the fort area after showing id's and getting the truck searched to see:

Buffalo Soldiers originally were members of the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army, formed on September 21, 1866 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This nickname was given to the "Negro Cavalry" by the Native American tribes they fought; the term eventually became synonymous with all of the African-American regiments formed in 1866:
Although several African-American regiments were raised during the Civil War to fight alongside the Union Army (including the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry and the many United States Colored Troops Regiments), the "Buffalo Soldiers" were established by Congress as the first peacetime all-black regiments in the regular U.S. Army.[1] On September 6, 2005, Mark Matthews, who was the oldest living Buffalo Soldier, died at the age of 111. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.[2]

after leaving the fort we tried to get into:

Yes the Penitentiary!!    you might remember last year when we tried to take a tour of the Pen in OK but they no longer gave tours then I called again (hit redial, thinking I was calling an RV park in South Texas) and asked if they had any availability for one night!!

quiet evening at the laundromat!!  tomorrow is another day here in the KC area...
